How should powder-fiber length, width, and aspect ratio reports be read?

Read length, width, and aspect-ratio statistics separately and review the same effective objects in individual images. Length and width use μm; ratios are dimensionless. Sample results are not instrument range or accuracy specifications.

Confirm a common object population

Video 55 shows a carbon-fiber powder report with 7,194 objects, mean length 50.59 μm, mean width 8.00 μm, and mean length-to-width ratio 6.51. These are results for that sample; retain material, region, count, and filter conditions.

Units and averaging

Length and width use length units; aspect ratios are dimensionless. Do not apply μm from a shared table header to ratios or substitute mean length divided by mean width for the report’s ratio statistics.

Check distributions and extreme objects in images

Review each metric’s histogram and percentiles, then locate long, wide, or unusual-ratio objects. Inspect crossings, edges, and measurement lines. Videos 41 and 55 show individual images and excluded objects.

Sample distribution and instrument capability

Report minima and maxima describe the sample distribution, not the model’s measurement range. Historical materials differ on maximum length; confirm the current technical table and sample testing.
