How can automated density testing be evaluated for dark and patterned woven fabrics?
The woven fabric density tester uses near-infrared imaging and yarn-edge recognition. Its stated scope is single-layer woven fabric without hidden yarns, at 40–300 yarns/inch. Evaluate complex colors and structures with actual samples.
Confirm fabric structure
Identify layers, obscured yarns, weave, and density range. Plain, twill, satin, checks, and stripes require sample suitability verification; broad weave coverage does not replace it.
Measurement length and timing
Select a measurement length of 1–6 cm. The 30 seconds/inch timing includes report generation. Longer regions and multiple directions affect complete task time; define preparation and alignment boundaries during the demonstration.
Counts and unit conversion
Density is calculated from counts over a measured distance. Multiply yarns/10 cm by 0.254 to obtain yarns/inch: 280.95 yarns/10 cm is approximately 71.36 yarns/inch. Changing units does not change the actual yarn count.
Evaluate a newly developed product
Review development tests and operation demonstrations, then inspect images and counts on your own samples. Sample feedback confirms suitability and purchasing requirements; a development demonstration is not a completed customer sale.
Inspect recognition and manual corrections
Videos 70 and 73 show yarn recognition positions and density recalculation after count adjustments. Check measurement direction and region before reviewing missed yarns, duplicate counts, and correction status.
Keep samples naturally flat
The TW-E-H-IR-01 manual describes 6–8 cm rectangular or round specimens held with a transparent glass plate, without adhesive, wetting, or stretching. Conditioning and tension should match the applicable test method.
